In September 2022, the Coordinating Council recommended that the Presbytery of Carlisle establish innovative New Worshipping Communities to seek new disciples of Jesus Christ that may exist in groups and cultures outside those typically served by Presbtyerian ministries. Today, as a result of that directive, the Presbytery of Carlisle has three New Worshipping Communities committed to mutual care and accountability and connected through expressions of the body of Christ.
Intertwined
https://www.intertwinedfc.org
Intertwined is a community of Jesus-followers who explore faith through the lens of ecology. We gather weekly for a time of centering, sacred readings, prayer, and fellowship. By design, we do not have a building; our gatherings occur outdoors or in other non-religious locations. We strive to create a welcoming space for those who most easily encounter the divine outside of a church building. We also have weekday gatherings, participate in eco-justice and service efforts, and maintain an online presence that offers learning opportunities and spiritual practices.
‘The Circle Hbg
https://www.thecirclehbg.org
The Circle Hbg is an intergenerational queer-centered community that tends to the spirit, leads with curiosity, and seeks wholeness together. The Circle Hbg seeks to create a community where people from a variety of traditions can explore spiritual practices, wonder together, and be seen and celebrated as they discover themselves.
The Presbytery of Carlisle is still considering inspired ideas for New Worshipping Communities which cultivate an adventurous climate that values creativity, diversity, courage, dependence on the Spirit, and risk-taking. While each emerges in its own unique way, consideration is always given to how the New Worshipping Community will expand, complement, and supplement the service of the Presbytery to the larger community.
